Residency @ ITI: What Weird World - Open Sessions

What Weird World is a participatory performance laboratory that seeks to examine our messy and unfamiliar contemporary world through the lens of childhood perception. Combining the educational drama convention “Mantle of the Expert” with the physical theatre technique of Human Tableaux, the project explores how we might re-learn our relationship with the environment and one another. The audience moves beyond passive observation to become part of the physical and imaginative architecture of the performer’s world.

ITI Artist-in-Residence: Afiszan Amat & James Anthony Carino

Afiszan Amat is a Singapore-based performance maker, director, and drama educator whose practice bridges physical theatre, pedagogy, and community-driven creation. His work explores presence, embodiment, and the relationship between tradition and contemporary performance.

He is particularly interested in creating inclusive spaces where young and emerging performers can engage meaningfully with artistic processes while contributing their own perspectives.

James Anthony Carino (Jac) shapes performance through narrative, instinctive flow, and physical resonance. A Valedictorian and Best Graduate of NAFA’s Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Performance Making, his practice spans theatre, dance, and interdisciplinary work.

Beyond performing, he creates and directs interdisciplinary works exploring how movement, narrative, and live performance generate new forms of embodied expression.

1. RCT-S0: Experimental Play Lab

You are invited to RCT-S0, a working lab session where audiences step in as “scientific experts” to experiment, question, and help shape the evolving world of their research project - What Weird World. 

Developed by Jac and Afis (NAFA BAPM alumni) during their ongoing residency at ITI, this open laboratory welcomes you to move, play, and discuss alongside the artists – bringing your curiosity to a space with no right answers, only strange questions and discoveries to be made.

What to wear: Please come in comfortable clothing as there will be movement and physical activity in the space.
