Plaything of the Gods

ITI’s next graduation showcase – Plaything of the Gods - re-tells tales of heroes and demons, lovers, maidens and warriors, drawn from famed Sanskrit epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata.

Directed by ITI’s Wayang Wong master-teacher Bambang “Besur” Suryono (Bambang Mbesur), dramaturged by the institute’s Director and Cultural Medallion recipient Thirunalan Sasitharan.

Selected narrative and dramatic elements from these texts will be combined with performative elements – dance, music, gesture, vocalisation, mask work and acting – drawn from the Wayang Wong traditions of the royal courts of Surakarta and Yogyakarta.
