ITI25 Workshop Series: Being, Becoming, Sustaining

WEB POSTER ITI25 Workshop Series SFC

ITI’s 25th Anniversary programme continues with the ‘ITI25 Workshop Series: Being, Becoming, Sustaining’ — open to aspiring and emerging theatre practitioners who are curious about the foundational practices that contribute to the strength, versatility, and raw physicality of the ITI artist.

Through these workshops, participants will learn to sense into the body, attuning to the quality of connection with time, space, and our surroundings. They will explore movement-based approaches to text through traditional and contemporary theatre techniques, character play and mask work. Finally, through practice sharing and devising exercises, participants will reflect on what it means to nurture a curious body and mind in order to deepen and sustain an artistic life.

The workshop series is led by three actor-artist-educators who have been profoundly shaped by the experience of intercultural training at ITI, from the early days of TTRP to the present day: Andy Ng Wai-shek, Yazid Jalil and Koh Wan Ching.

Discounts are available for students, NSFs, and participants who register for more than one workshop.

◼︎Workshop 3

Sustaining: Curiosity, Attention and Research with Koh Wan Ching

How does attention lead to presence, on stage and off? How can we incorporate research into everyday practice? This workshop encourages each participant to nurture an inquisitive body and mind while learning, training and creating in order to sustain a lifelong artistic practice.

The workshop will incorporate different movement practices as well as speaking and devising exercises led by Koh Wan Ching, an accomplished Singaporean performer, theatre-maker, and the Head of Acting at ITI.

Following the session, there will be a short dialogue about ITI’s unique intercultural learning programme, born of Kuo Pao Kun and T. Sasitharan’s vision of the potential for theatre to unite, empower, and change communities for the better.

What to expect

  • Activate curiosity during movement exploration - what am I doing and how am I doing it? How does it affect the audience? How can curiosity lead to more creative possibilities?
