Introduction to the Michael Chekhov Technique

Chekhov workshop 2014

This workshop offers an introduction to the Michael Chekhov strategy of creating quality of action through the use of so-called Psycho-physical Sensations. By firstly exercising the will the performer will achieve complete control over his or her vocal and physical actions. Subsequently, the imagination is engaged to fill the actions with feeling, intention or imagery.

More specifically, participants will be given an opportunity to explore the techniques of Imaginary Body and Archetypal Gesture. These techniques are of benefit when developing a role or character, changing your state of being, transforming your appearance, and for the purpose of text analysis.

Michael Chekhov claims that in every true, great piece of art you will always find four qualities, which the artist has put into his creation: Ease, Form, Beauty, and Wholeness.

The artistic principles of the Michael Chekhov technique are of enormous benefit for actors, dancers, singers, musicians and performing arts teachers.
