The Heart Sutra. Biomechanics. Actor’s Discipline. Character Creation
How do these four domains intersect, and how might their integration support the performer in harmonising the self with the act of creation?
Through the 260 characters of the Heart Sutra, the performer engages with the depths of the human mind and the illusions of the material world, cultivating a nuanced inner life for the character. When fused with Meyerhold’s biomechanics, this internal landscape finds expression through precise, embodied action—turning intention into gesture, emotion into movement. In this interplay, the performer not only gives form to the character but also remains inwardly attuned, protecting their own mental clarity and energetic integrity throughout the creative process.
