The event will begin with an enlightening introduction to Kutiyattam with master teacher Kapila Venu followed by a presentation of the form by ITI students, together with visiting students from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).
Kutiyattam is the oldest surviving Sanskrit Theatre tradition of India, well known for its plays with the poetic quality of a Sanskrit verse, with multi-layered meanings and metaphors. Recognised as India's first UNESCO Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, Kutiyattam is one of the four Asian Traditional forms that students at ITI study through 9-week intensive immersions. Join us for An Evening of Kutiyattam to witness their engagement with this ancient art form.
A short Q&A will follow the presentation.
