After graduation, Xiao Jian was employed as a drama teacher by Julia Gabriel Centre in Singapore and later went on to a teaching position at an international school in Shanghai. He also performed in Lan Ma for the Chinese Theatre Circle in Singapore, and for the Festival of World Cultures in Dublin, Ireland, in 2005.
