Jose is a drama teacher at the Escola Da Teatro - School of Drama in Macau. He is also a project lead, on the Macau side, of the multi-country, long-term theatre programme, In Search of Island’s Memory (2017 - 2019)

Previously, he was associate professor (acting) at the Faculty of Arts, Shenzhen University.

After his ITI training, Jose went on to earn a Master in Arts in Directing (with Distinction) at Rose Bruford College, UK.

On the stage, he has performed in The Juggler’s Tale by the Traditions & Editions Theatre Circus, a theatre collective set up by ITI alumni. The production was featured as part of Esplanade’s The Studios series in May 2011. In 2010, he was invited by the Shenzhen Dramatist Association to be director at the event ‘Shenzhen Harmony – Celebration of Shenzhen’s 30th Anniversary'. In 2007, he was awarded a commission to direct a production of Kuo Pao Kun’s Descendants of the Eunuch Admiral for the Macao Literary Festival. He performed in Dis-Orientations by Border Crossings, UK, in an off-West End production in London in September 2006.

At ITI, Jose was an scholarship awardee of the Cultural Institute of Macao (now Cultural Affairs Bureau).
