Aaron Kaiser Garcia is a contemporary performance-maker, choreographer, and performer. He is currently serving on the Executive Council of the Philippine National Commission for Culture and the Arts - National Committee on Dramatic Arts. Aaron’s artistic work explores the potentiality of the body to process and reveal the layered landscapes of the Filipino socio-political psyche, or even actively counter political revisionism via choreography. Trained in the folk dance tradition, he now seeks to interrogate the term’s implication in state mechanisms of violence and erasure by invoking the true spirit of folk as a mutable and mutualistic practice.
Recent engagements include Goethe-Institut Southeast-Asia’s Reflekt Residency in cooperation with Tanzfaktur (Cologne, Germany 2023), Schule für Schauspiel Hamburg Contemporary Asian Performance Studies Movement Lab (Hamburg, Germany 2023), Cultural Center of the Philippines Choreographer’s Series Koryolab: In the Round (Manila, Philippines 2023), Goethe- Institute South Asia & Southeast-Asia’s Invisible Dance: The Body in Friction (Ahmedabad, India 2023), Art Fair Philippines ArtFairPH/Residencies (Makati, Philippines 2023), Tokyo Festival Farm Asian Performing Arts Camp (Online Fellowship, Japan 2022), and Dance Nucleus [CP]3 Certificate Programme for Critical Practice in Contemporary Performance (Online Fellowship, Singapore 2022).
