ITI’s Co-Founders Kuo Pao Kun and T. Sasitharan (Sasi) were conferred the Cultural Medallion in 1990 and 2012 respectively. They are among the 130 recipients who have received Singapore’s highest honour for artists, and are featured in National Arts Council’s exhibition Our Cultural Medallion Story at The Arts House.

The exhibition showcases the creative journeys of these recipients through physical and digital presentations as well as publications written by and about them.

More about the exhibition here.

“Theatre is an art written in the wind. It’s an art that is seen in a chamber, in an evening, and is carried away by the audience. Therefore the canon of any theatre is such an ephemeral and impermanent thing.

So what is it that makes theatre ours? Well, part of the answer is that there is nothing. Any art worth its name defies nationality, breaks the bonds of culture and goes beyond the boundaries of what is definable or knowable. That is the nature of art.”
