richard III redux, a play by ITI guest lecturer Kaite O’Reilly and faculty member Phillip Zarrilli, is one of three plays shortlisted for the James Tait Black Prize for Drama 2019.
Inclusiveness in the arts is central to Kaite O’Reilly and Phillip Zarrilli’s thought-provoking, one-woman play.
The actress Sara Beer considers how she might perform Shakespeare’s Richard III – a figure who, like her, is disabled with scoliosis, or a curvature of the spine.
Playing a variety of characters, Beer highlights the limited opportunities available to disabled actors, and the injustice of able-bodied people performing as the King with scoliosis.
The winner will be announced at an award ceremony on 19 August at the Traverse Theatre at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
