Poetic Body — Workshop with Andy Ng Wai-shek

Connecting Instinct and Expression Through the Breath

An actor’s emotions and expressions lie at the core of performance, and they are interdependent. Expression relies on the actions and reactions of the physical body and its emotional state, one feeding off the other in a continuous loop - unless suppressed. Often, one tends to forget the truest feeling of simply “being”, in pursuit of “effect” in performance. Expression can be constrained or manipulated by ego, which limits the full truth of a response.

In this workshop, Andy will guide participants to open new pathways that allow instincts to rise to the surface. Poetic Body is not only a skills training workshop, it is also an opportunity for participants to return to self, connect with pure sensation and experience the expression of the free body. By understanding the nexus of breath and action, participants are guided to rediscover performance anew and reconnect with its core foundation.
